- Dead-head winter flowering pansies and primroses
- Tidy up fallen leaves from beds and borders and put on the compost heap
- On Clay soils, dig in plenty of rotted horse manure or compost
- Place terracotta and glazed pots on ‘feet’ to avoid them water logging
- If the weather is mild, herbaceous perennials can be divided

- Check that greenhouse heaters are functioning correctly
- Reduce the amount of water given to plants in the winter
- Clear leaves from greenhouse gutters

- Rake off fallen leaves from the lawn
- If the weather is mild, the lawn may need a light trim
- Avoid walking on the lawn during frosty weather as this will mark the grass

- Feed wild bird during very cold weather
- Fill birdbaths and keep free of ice during frosty weather
- Collect valuable rainwater in water butts
- Use a pond heater to avoid it freezing over – this can be fatal to fish
